The Simplex® 4100U Fire Detection and Alarm Platform is a high-end, next-generation distributed
network system that combines superior fire protection and information management with lower costs of
installation, maintenance and ownership. Designed to meet the needs of engineers, facility managers,
building owners and electrical contractors, the 4100U builds upon the field-proven performance of the
industry-leading Simplex 4100 Series fire systems. The 4100U adds new technology, expanded point
capacity, digital voice communications, advanced built-in diagnostics, dual operating software,
and other enhancements. Moreover, it has been specifically designed to allow existing 4100 and 4120
network systems to be upgraded rather than replaced.
Capable of supporting 392,000 addressable analog points, the 4100U platform links multiple 4100U
control panels in a seamless, highly survivable fire alarm network. Its advanced peer-to-peer, token
ring network provides a communications platform for master annunciation, control and information
sharing that does not require centralized processing. This ensures unparalleled survivability
compared to conventional systems that rely on central control. The system offers true interactive,
two-way communications between the 4100U control panels, TrueAlarm® smoke detectors and
TrueAlert notification appliances, with intelligent communications extending all the way
to each individual point on the system for total addressability.
Important cost-saving features are incorporated into the 4100U design. Simplified T-Tap wiring allows
contractors to realize installation savings of up to 30%. New intelligent monitoring modules can be
added to the 4100U system without having to update the executive software, power down panels, or add
hardware. Thus a 4100U system can grow as quickly as needed. Low-cost compliance testing can be
conducted without disrupting building operations. Exceptional distributed network capabilities make
the 4100U platform ideal for special protection requirements in high-rise office towers and
multi-building facilities such as hospitals, college campuses, industrial plants, sports complexes
and airports. Its typical .08-second alarm response achieved in a 99-node network far exceeds the
NFPA minimum 20-second requirement. Operation of the 4100U distributed network can be optimized with
the new Simplex 4290 Information Management System (IMS). Powerful and versatile, the IMS is a
sophisticated Windows-based graphical management system for controlling networked fire alarm systems
in large facilities or campus environments. It enables customers to configure, manage and optimize
the 4100U environment with "point and click" ease.
