AUTOCALL CommFone® 500 System
Emergency Firefighter Telephones

The CommFone® 500 system provides two-way emergency telephone communication between firefighters and other authorized personnel. Designed for use with SimplexGrinnell's AUTOCALL TFX family of control units, the CommFone 500 system combines addressable and zonal telephone circuits in a single, highly flexible package.

CommFone telephones are typically installed in corridors, lobbies, mechanical control centers, stairways or other strategic locations. When lifted from its cradle, the CommFone handset activates audible and visible signals at the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP). By lifting the handset of the master phone at the FACP, the operator is automatically connected to the selected firefighter's emergency telephone. At any time, other firefighters' telephones may be selected at the FACP to join in the conversation.

The addressable CommFone 500 system circuits are supervised, so that a trouble condition activates an audible and visible signal at the FACP. A switch that silences the audible signal lights a trouble LED. During standby (non-use) condition, the system remains in the supervisory mode to prevent unauthorized use and to report any trouble conditions.

While firefighters' emergency telephones are supervised through an addressable loop, non-addressable (zonal) telephones may be added to form a "common talk zone" of any size. Within this zone, telephones communicate with each other without selection at the FACP. Additional equipment may be added to provide more circuits as required. On systems with multiple circuits, LED annunciators may be used to indicate which remote zone circuit is calling. Switches enable activation of circuits or broadcast of announcements over the building evacuation system.
