Control Applications

There are end users who are the Authority Having Jurisdiction and may authorize operation that warrants a local exception to the National Code. Even though agency listings may not be an issue, they still require important rules before entertaining these operations.

Before you offer the possibility of unlisted control operations, please use the following guidelines to determine feasibility:

Ask these questions:

  • Who is in charge?
    • Does the responsibility for the fire alarm system and the facility network reside in one department?
    • Does direct control of all equipment reside in one group?
    • Who has priority, the fire alarm system or the network services?
  • Is the network and its computer components suitable for fire alarm monitoring and control service?
    • Is the system rated for the specific control actions?
    • Can you depend on continuous service?
    • Can the system track control operations from the network devices originating the command?
These are the basic questions to ask whenever control commands from network devices will affect the fire panel operations. The owner must know these answers before proceeding with implementing non-listed remote control functions.

If you have any control needs, please contact your local SimplexGrinnell District Offices to discuss your application.
