Simplex BACpac Frequently Asked Questions:

Can a Portal be applied to provide a Building Management network window to the facility fire alarm system?

YES, The Building Management Network connection does not impact fire alarm system operation. This application is considered supplemental to a Simplex fire alarm system. The fire alarm panel is designed to isolate any hard or software faults arising from the open network connection. The Portal is supervised by the fire panel, so any breaks between the Portal and the fire panel will be annunciated at the fire panel as a port fault.

View fire system conditions at Building Management Network workstations?

YES, The Building Management Network connection does not impact fire alarm system operation. This application is considered supplemental to a Simplex fire alarm system. All Simplex BACnet objects configured from the BACpac Portal are available to be displayed at a BACnet compatible workstation (fire alarm and trouble by point or zone; priority 2 alarm and trouble by point or zone; supervisory service conditions; utility points on/off; etc.). The workstation must be configured by others for this annunciation.

Provide smoke alarm status to HVAC control systems?

YES, But, the Portal is not listed for smoke control management use by any HVAC supplier at this time. The Building Management supplier must submit the fire alarm system and interface for agency listing as a Smoke Management System under UL category UUKL. Simplex cannot obtain listing for a third party but will support Third party efforts to obtain UUKL listing.

Configure a network of Simplex fire alarm panels for alarm reporting?

Not Likely, A Building Management network supplier must have our fire alarm system and their network components agency listed for the purpose. This is unlikely because of today¡¦s listing requirements to re-submit any component changes. Computer technology changes faster than the listing process can keep up with making this effort too costly.

Allow a Building Management network to control the fire panel functions such as Acknowledge, Silence, Reset, Point Disable/Enable, On/Off utility control?

The Portal is not listed for this use. The system must be listed for the purpose before any control operations to the fire alarm panels are allowed.
