SimplexGrinnell Announces Contract with the Department of Defense for Life-safety Protection Services at the Pentagon
Scope of Work Includes Testing of Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems
WESTMINSTER, Massachusetts (Feb. 02, 2004) - SimplexGrinnell, a business unit of Tyco Fire & Security, today announces an agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense for testing of the fire alarm and suppression systems at the Pentagon and other facilities in the National Capital Region (NCR). The contract includes testing and inspection for a one-year period. The Pentagon service agreement commenced shortly after SimplexGrinnell secured an all-encompassing GSA agreement for fire alarm and suppression services (GS-06F-0054N).
The Pentagon, headquarters for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., is the nerve center for defense-related command and control in the U.S. One of the world's largest office buildings, the Pentagon encompasses more than 3.7 million square feet. The massive building is composed of five wedge-shaped sections and includes 17.5 miles of corridors. The Pentagon presently houses approximately 23,000 military and civilian employees and about 3,000 non-defense support personnel dedicated to protecting our national interests.
"As a leader in fire protection and a company committed to service excellence, SimplexGrinnell is honored to have the opportunity to provide fire system testing at the Pentagon, " says Michael O'Rourke, Vice President of Services at SimplexGrinnell. "We recognize the important role SimplexGrinnell is playing in protecting the Pentagon. Our intent, as with all customers, is to deliver outstanding fire protection services to the Pentagon under this agreement."
SimplexGrinnell has also designed and installed fire alarm systems at the Pentagon. That retrofit fire alarm contracting work has been done as part of the Pentagon Renovation Program, a multiyear initiative to renovate the building, and the rehabilitation following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack. In addition, SimplexGrinnell has conducted speech intelligibility testing of emergency evacuation systems in the facility.
SimplexGrinnell holds multiple GSA agreements for industry-leading fire, security and communications products and services including Fire Detection and Alarm Products (GS-07F-0396M), Fire Alarm and Suppression Services (GS-06F-0054N), Nurse Call/Patient Response Products (GS-27F-0026M), and Time Solutions Products (GS-25F-0165M).
