WESTMINSTER, Massachusetts (April 21, 2004) - Today, approximately 180 young people from communities throughout Central and Eastern Massachusetts are attending the second annual Kids @ Work Day at SimplexGrinnell and Tyco Safety Products.
The half-day event provides children of employees a fun and meaningful glimpse of the working world-from the corporate support operations of a major company to real-life manufacturing processes and practices. The activities planned for Kids @ Work include: a tour of the facility, including the computer lab and the central monitoring center that handles fire and burglar alarms for customers throughout the United States; demonstrations of fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers and other life-safety equipment; and hands-on opportunities to develop a graphic logo and participate in manufacturing and assembly-line processes.
SimplexGrinnell and Tyco Safety Products, both business units of Tyco Fire & Security, are among many Tyco companies participating in the nationwide children-to-work observance. Tyco Safety Products, the manufacturing arm for Tyco Fire & Security, is co-located in the 680,000 square-foot Westminster facility with SimplexGrinnell, a leading North American provider of fire and life-safety systems and services. About 1,300 SimplexGrinnell and Tyco Safety Products employees work at the Westminster facility. SimplexGrinnell provides world-class fire alarm, sprinkler, suppression, security and communications systems and service to over one million customers, from hospitals, schools and office towers to government buildings, industrial facilities and hotels.
