SimplexGrinnell received a Partners, Friends, and Leaders Program Award at Tuesday's
meeting of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School Committee. The company was
nominated by the school committee and selected for the honor on the basis of its
ongoing collaboration with the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District.
"SimplexGrinnell is highly deserving of the Partners, Friends and Leaders Award,
which reflects the company's strong commitment to education through its support
of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District," says MASC Executive Director
Glenn Koocher, who presented the award. "This type of collaboration between districts
and local businesses truly helps school committees fulfill their educational mission."
David Christianson, chairman of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School Committee,
says: "The challenges of modern education require broad participation from the community
as a whole to make it successful. This award is a recognition of the corporate commitment
that SimplexGrinnell has made to our district for some time now. We are proud and pleased
to have them as a partner."
A Multi-Tiered Program
Now in its third year, the SimplexGrinnell program is a multi-faceted initiative that
touches all levels of the Ashburnham-Westminster district, from K-5 elementary schools
and Overlook Middle School to Oakmont Regional High School and the communities at large.
The program encompasses both in-kind support and financial contributions to help the
district better serve its 2,400 K-12 students. Specifically, the SimplexGrinnell program
includes:
- Sponsorship of Overlook Middle School's annual Teen Dating Violence Awareness
Project that helps students make the right choices regarding dating and peer
relationships.
- Support for a superintendent's communications initiative involving the development
of brochures and newsletters that provide the community at large with important
information about the school district.
- Sponsorship of scholarships for graduating seniors at Oakmont Regional High School.
- Sponsorship of end-of-year celebrations in the district's elementary schools.
- Recruitment and organization of SimplexGrinnell volunteers for school activities,
such as spring clean-up days and arts programs.
Michael Zapantis, Ed. D., Ashburnham-Westminster superintendent of schools, is deeply
appreciative of the support SimplexGrinnell has shown the district. "This program and our
relationship with SimplexGrinnell have a tremendously positive impact on our schools,
our students and our communities," Dr. Zapantis says.
Dave Baer, vice president of marketing at SimplexGrinnell, says: "We're honored to receive
the Partners, Friends and Leaders Award from the Massachusetts Association of School
Committees. As a Tyco company, we recognize the importance of supporting our communities
and doing our part to enhance educational opportunities for local students. We're extremely
proud of the strong relationship we've developed with the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional
School District and heartened by the continued success of the program."
